Bu çalışma, halen DPT- Ekonomik Modeller ve Stratejik Araştırmalar Genel Müdürlüğü'nce uluslararası ekonomik gelişmeleri takip etmek amacıyla yayınlanmaktadır.

AB ülkeleri, bir kısım AB dışı OECD ülkeleri, komşu ülkeler ve ülkemizle karşılaştırmalarda özellik arzeden bazı gelişmekte olan ülkelerden müteşekkil toplam - Türkiye dahil - 39 ülke temel alınmıştır. Sözkonusu ülkeler; "Sanayileşmiş Ülkeler" ve"Gelişmekte Olan Ülkeler ve Doğu Avrupa Ülkeleri" olarak üç ana grupta toplanmıştır.

Ülkelerin ekonomik göstergelerinin zaman içinde gelişme seyrinin izlenebilmesi açısından veriler, 1970 ve 1987-1996 aralığını kapsamaktadır. Sırası ile nüfus, milli gelir, para, dış ticaret, dış borç ve işsizlik göstergeleri çalışmanın ana başlıklarını teşkil eden konulardır.

İlgili tablolarda göstergeler açısından önem arzeden ülkeler ayrıca büyük harflerle tabloya eklenmiştir.

Çalışmanın bu baskısında, kimi göstergelere göre dünyanın önde gelen ülkelerine de yer verilmişir.

IMF'nin "International Financial Statistics" ve "World Economic Outlook"; Dünya Bankası'nın "World Development Report" ve "Global Development Finance" ve “The World Tables" periyodiklerinin ülke raporları faydalanılan başlıca kaynaklardır.

Türkiye ile ilgili verilerde, DPT yıllık program gerçekleşmeleri ve DİE yıllıklarındaki rakamlar esas alınmıştır.

Göstergelerin herhangi bir ülke (ülkeler grubu) ile ilgisi veya anlamlılığının bulunmadığı durumlarda, o satır (bölüm) tamamen boş bırakılmıştır (çıkarılmıştır). Veri bulunmadığı hallerde ise, "..." (üç nokta) ile işaretlenmiştir. Eğer bulunan veri çok küçük veya sıfıra yakınsa bu kısım “0” (sıfır) ile gösterilmiştir. Virgül (,) ondalık kısmı ifade etmektedir.

The main purpose of this publication is to provide an up-to- date general overview of annual economic trends in some selected countries of the world.

Data are classified on the basis of economic groupings of countries as "Industrial Countries" and "Developing Countries and East European Countries".

The study contains 39 countries including EU and some major OECD countries, neighbouring countries of Turkey and some selected developing countries which have interesting characteristics.

The range of period covers 1970 and 1988-1995 to allow comparative analysis of economic development and general trends at the world and national levels.

Data in the tables fall into the following broad areas: population, national accounts, money, external trade, external debt and unemployment.

Leading countries in some areas have also been added in the tables and expressed in capital letters.

The main sources used in the preparation of this study were the IMF's "International Fianancial Statistics" and "World Economic Outlook"; World Bank's "World Development Report" and "Global Development Finace" and “The World Tables”.

The statistics for Turkey have been drawn from the State Planning Organisation's (SPO) Annual Programs and the Yearbooks of the State Institute of Statistics (SIS).

When the indicators are not relevant or related for a country (group of countries), that line (section) has been left blank (dropped). The symbol, "...", indicates that datum is not available. “0.0” indicates that a zero, or less than half the unit shown and not known more precisely. In parallel with the Turkish setting, a comma (,) is used to indicate decimal.
